From our executive director to our certified nurses and culinary staff, Parkway Place employees are dedicated to meeting your needs by providing superior service and care, every day.

Abraham Mathew

Executive Director

Abraham joined Buckner Parkway Place in 2019. Prior to Buckner, Abraham’s career working with senior adults began in 2003, and he has since held positions in Texas and Illinois as a Licensed Healthcare Administrator. Mathew completed his Doctorate in Business Administration in Healthcare Management and Leadership from California Intercontinental University in Irvine, Calif. He holds a Master’s in Social Work and another Masters in English Literature. Mathew is an appointee and Chairman of the Nursing Facility Administrators Advisory Committee by Texas Governor Greg Abbot since 2018, as well as a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

“Our seniors deserve the best life experiences and my role is to serve them and make it happen,” added Mathew. “As my interests are on strategic growth, innovation and technology in senior living, it is my goal to think differently and encourage such innovation while serving the senior adults.”

Kara Bayer

Kara’s strong desire to serve older adults started at a young age. Growing up in the industry she saw the impact her mentors had on residents and families, and realized she found her calling. Kara graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors in Science. After graduation she pursued and attained her administrator’s license from Mclennan. In 2018 she helped open a retirement community and served as the Assisted Living and Memory Care Director. Kara is a licensed Nursing Facility Administrator and a Certified Assisted Living Manager in Texas.

Kara was drawn to Buckner for being a faith based organization. Buckner’s mission of inspiring happiness was another pivotal point. Kara has a true passion for serving residents, families, and staff and can’t wait to start inspiring happiness! In her free time Kara enjoy spending time with her family, friends, and dog. She also loves watching sports and spending time outside.

Michelle Barroso

Marketing Director for Independent Living

Michelle joined Buckner Parkway Place in 2019 as Marketing Director for Independent Living. Michelle began working in the Senior Living Industry in 2012 where she was able to work with all stages of needs for seniors. Michelle holds her certificate as Certified Dementia Practitioner.

“I have always considered working with seniors as a calling, long before working in senior living. Joining Parkway Place has made a way for me to join my core values to an organization whose foundation was built on showing Christ’s love for people which is exactly the way it should be. The residents really do come first at Parkway Place and in my role I could not be more proud to share Buckner’s life changing philosophy with seniors.”

Jamie Oliver

Director of Culinary Services

Jamie Olivier joined Buckner Parkway Place in 2021. Jamie studied at the Art Institute of Houston, pursuing culinary arts and hospitality management. He began his culinary career at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Houston. Jamie quickly advanced from entry level to management within the industry.

He has previously worked with senior living communities as a chef and director of culinary services. “It is priceless and a rewarding gift to work with seniors,” he shared.

Kelly Stephens

Kelly joined Parkway Place in 2020 as Director of Human Resources. She comes to Buckner with more than 13 years of experience in the HR field, with specific passions around employee development, coaching, and learning and development. She previously worked in the retail and oil and gas industries. Kelly graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in HR Development. She is a certified HR professional from the Society of Human Resources Management and is involved in the local HR Houston chapter. Kelly is also a certified leadership trainer for DDI – Development Dimensions International, a global company that specializes in leadership training and assessments. She is passionate about coaching employees to find success and meaning in their career and everyday life!

Kelly’s biggest passions outside of work are spending time with her husband Mark, and young daughter Nora, as well as traveling, being outdoors, and exercising!

We have a responsibility to make every associate feel accepted and welcomed every day they come to work, and it’s my honor to help serve in that way.”

Katrina Alvarado

Director of Lifestyle and Wellness

Katrina Jaso Alvarado (Kat) is the Director of Lifestyle & Wellness at Parkway Place. She has over 10 years of experience in fitness and wellness, ranging from exercise, nutrition, dance, and instructional classes in senior fitness and Zumba for various ages. She is an avid promoter of music and how it can help motivate and awaken the human spirit, getting us moving in the right direction towards wellness goals. Kat is a firm believer in a non-intimidating workout setting. Therefore, she encourages residents of various fitness levels to come into the wellness center and see how their personal wellness can be exercised; whether it be 1:1 or in a group class. One very important thing she prides herself in is that her parents are retired seniors. She understands the importance of incorporating healthy engagements that foster fun, valuable, and cherished experiences.

John Bender

John joined Parkway Place in 2016. Prior to Buckner, he served 35 years in Baptist church ministries where he held various roles including lead pastor, education minister and administration.

“I always had a good relationship with senior adults in every church I’ve worked,” he said. “This position was a calling from God that I could not turn down, and it’s been the greatest two years of my ministry.”

Dragoslav Lukic

Director of Facilities

Dragoslav Lukic (Drago) has been with Buckner Parkway Place since 2006.  His journey began as a night courtesy officer but quickly moved to the maintenance assistance position.  In 2012, he was given the opportunity and privilege to serve as Director of Facilities Management.  The position allows Drago to oversee housekeeping, maintenance, and security for Parkway Place.  His background is in Electrical Engineering.  He is a recipient of Leading Age – Texas “Excellence in Leadership” award in 2020, as well as Buckner Founders Day “Servant Spirit Service” award in 2020, and “Extraordinary Service” award in 2015. In 2017 Drago successfully completed a Leadership training through Leading Age – Texas Leadership Institute.

Drago loves working at Parkway Place because he considers it his second home.  There is nothing more rewarding than inspiring happiness to the residents at Parkway Place.  He enjoys serving residents while making a positive impact on their lives.  Outside of work, Drago enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Shima Reddy

Shima joined Parkway Place in 2015. She came to the healthcare industry in 2013 after working three years as an accounting paraprofessional. At Parkway Place, she’s found her calling.

Sheryll Mathew

Admissions Coordinator

Sheryll joined Buckner Parkway Place in 2021 as the Healthcare Admissions Coordinator. Sheryll has been serving senior adults since 2016. Her primary role was to help residents and patients join the community she served and enable a smooth transition. She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Psychology. “Being the Healthcare Admissions Coordinator at Buckner Parkway Place enables me to make a positive difference in the lives of many people,” says Sheryll.
