Meet the Buckner Parkway Place team!

Here at Parkway Place in Houston, our goal is to provide a personal experience that inspires happiness in you. We strive to know each member by name, so no matter where you go in our community, you’ll always be greeted with a friendly face. From our Executive Director to our certified nurses and culinary staff, Parkway Place employees are dedicated to meeting your needs by providing top-notch care and comfort, every day.

Susan Phelps

Susan Phelps

Executive Director

Susan joined the Buckner Retirement family in 2003, serving first with Calder Woods in Beaumont and then moving to Parkway Place in 2008. She’s held multiple roles at both communities, including Activity Director, Marketing Director and Director of Administrative Services.

I love spending time with residents,” she said. “They’re eager to share stories and life experiences that inspire me to really focus on what matters.  It’s a blessing to see them live with excitement and purpose.”

Cory has been with Parkway Place since 2017. Prior to Buckner, he worked 10 years in the durable medical equipment industry, then served six years as a licensed nursing administrator.

“This job provides me the opportunity to demonstrate the compassion and love the Lord gives to me undeservedly every day,” he said. “My favorite part of my job is hearing resident stories and knowing I’m making a difference.”

Marketing Coordinator

Katherine joined Parkway Place in 2016. Prior to Buckner, she worked as a vision therapist. “Being the Marketing Coordinator at Parkway Place gives me the opportunity to help people grow and flourish in their lives,” she said.

“By helping seniors find their new home, form new relationships and adjust to a new lifestyle, I feel like I’m making a difference.”

Director of Resident Engagement

Linda joined Parkway Place in April 2010. Her diverse career prior to Buckner includes computer programming, information systems and self-employment. After spending several years as a stay-at-home mom, she knew she was called to work with the senior adult population.

“My job is more of a ministry than a job,” she said. “These residents have so much experience to share and so much love to give!”

John Bender

John Bender


John joined Parkway Place in 2016. Prior to Buckner, he served 35 years in Baptist church ministries where he held various roles including lead pastor, education minister and administration.

“I always had a good relationship with senior adults in every church I’ve worked,” he said. “This position was a calling from God that I could not turn down, and it’s been the greatest two years of my ministry.”

Derone Martin

Derone Martin

Food Service Director

Derone joined Parkway Place in 2012. He comes to Buckner with more than 12 years of experience in food service, working as executive chef at establishments such as Sam Houston Race Park, The Vosswood Nursing Center and Quail Valley Golf Club. He also spent six years in the U.S. Navy.

“I work with senior adults because this is my way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who served our country in its time of need.”

Theresa Post

Healthcare Admissions Coordinator

Theresa joined Parkway Place as an intern in 2017 during her time at the University of Houston. She holds an associate’s degree in business and a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in business administration. After her internship was complete, Post served in several positions before assuming her current role as Healthcare Admissions Coordinator.

“I have a passion for the elderly community, and I am always learning how to better serve them with the many roles that I have been able to pursue at Buckner Parkway Place. Each one leads me closer to my ultimate goal of being a leader in the community and participating in the managerial roles in senior living communities to impact the future of elder communities.”

Shima Reddy

Director of Administrative Services

Shima joined Parkway Place in 2015. She came to the healthcare industry in 2013 after working three years as an accounting paraprofessional. At Parkway Place, she’s found her calling.

“I love working with senior adults because not only am I serving them, but I’m also learning from them and their amazing life experiences.”

Lucas Schipansky

Director of Nursing

Lucas Schipansky, RN, came on board with Buckner in 2018. Following his nursing education in Wyoming, he has gained vast experience in the healthcare industry through several nursing roles. He has served as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Medication Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Staff Development Coordinator, Nursing Manager and now Director of Nursing.

“I love working at Parkway Place because of its foundation and core values. I love the fact that it is Christ-Centered and that we get to strive toward a mission every day, not just ‘show up for work.’ I enjoy engaging with residents from all walks of life and being able to get to know these wonderful people who bless us with the privilege to care for them.”
